    Excavation Contractor in Thompson, CT

Site work, septic and well line trenching, driveways, and land clearing for property owners across Thompson and its villages.

Thompson is spread out. Between Thompson Hill, North Grosvenordale, Grosvenordale, Quinebaug, Wilsonville, and West Thompson, you get everything from tight mill-village lots to wooded acreage off dirt roads and seasonal camps around Quaddick. That spread is the whole story when it comes to excavation here, because the right approach on a quarter-acre lot near the river is not the right approach on a ten-acre parcel where the house sits four hundred feet back from the pavement.

Most of the calls we take in Thompson come down to two things: water and access. Water, because a large share of the town is on private wells and private septic systems, so anything you build has to work around a leach field, a well radius, and whatever the ground is doing when it rains. Access, because long private drives and camp roads take a beating from frost, runoff, and log trucks, and once a drive starts rutting it gets worse every season until someone rebuilds the base properly.

We work on both sides of that. If you are replacing a failed septic system, we do the excavation, the tank set, the line work, and the restoration afterward. If your well line froze or you are running water to a new structure, we trench it below frost and backfill it correctly. And if the drive that gets you to any of it is falling apart, we can rebuild it at the same time while the machines are already on site — which is usually cheaper than doing it as two separate visits.

Northeast Connecticut ground is not forgiving. Glacial till, cobbles, and ledge show up regularly around here, and wet pockets and wetland edges are common. None of that is a reason to panic, but it is a reason to have someone walk the site before quoting rather than pricing off a satellite photo. If we hit rock or find soil that will not support what you are putting on it, you will hear about it from us the day we find it, along with the options and what each one costs.

Working around wells and septic systems

On a property with a private well and an on-site septic system, half the excavation job is knowing where not to dig. Setbacks between the well, the leach field, the reserve area, the foundation, and any new structure govern where things can physically go, and getting that wrong is expensive to undo. We locate what exists, work from the plans when they exist, and lay things out to keep the reserve area clear so a future system replacement is still possible.

Permits and local health district approval are typically required for septic work and for new construction with on-site water and waste, and we handle coordinating those approvals as part of the job rather than leaving you to chase them.

    Private drives and camp roads

A long gravel drive in Thompson has to survive frost heave, spring runoff, and a plow truck. The ones that last are crowned so water sheds to the shoulders, have culverts anywhere water wants to cross, and were built up in compacted lifts on stripped subgrade instead of gravel dumped onto loam. When we rebuild a drive we fix the drainage that wrecked it, not just the surface, because a regrade without drainage correction is a repair you will be paying for again in two years.
